About Me

Hi, I’m Paula Roberts a qualified Counsellor and Psychotherapist.

I have been working in this field for the past 25 years and am pleased to say scientific evidence has now proven the correlation of the mind body connection, which explains the success of the unique approach I utilise.

I work within the NHS and Drug and Alcohol Service.

I am a member of the BACP, British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists and I am also a qualified Somatic Therapist.

I am passionate about the power of talk therapy (Counselling) and have seen the huge impact it has had on the lives of the clients I have worked with

Choosing a therapist

I understand the process may feel daunting when you're already dealing with issues. Hence why I decided to add a short video clip, so this website isn’t so impersonal, (not just words on a screen).

Trying to find the right therapist is one of the most important aspects for you.

No matter what issues you may be facing, having someone to talk to who is non-judgmental and can hold and create a safe space where you can begin to explore whatever areas are pertinent to you, can make a huge difference to your life and those around you.

From the client feedback I have received there are two important aspects in choosing who you’d like to work with,

First and most importantly is the connection with the Counsellor/therapist, feeling heard, safe and having that connection, will allow you the space to fully explore your concerns and issues in a non-judgemental environment.

Second is the Counselling technique being used, ensuring it is the right approach for you.

How I can help

I work using a method known as an Integrative approach, which means I can pull on a variety of different theoretical models and ways of working.

This allows me to tailor the way I work to your specific needs.

I also specialise in a Somatic therapeutic process of the mind/body connection, this type of approach has now been scientifically proven as one of the most effective ways to work as client issues can now be addressed using both aspects of the therapeutic process.

I have the ability to work in a very unique way that encompasses how feelings of anxiety, depression, stress, not only affect how we think and feel but also show up as physical ailments, lethargy, heart palpitations, high bloody pressure etc.

Working with all aspects creates a highly effective form of therapy that can potentially reduce the time it takes to work with individual issues, hence more cost effective.

Testimonial

I was introduced to Paula after approaching the NHS regarding my declining mental health. It was getting to a point where it was seriously affecting my family life and put a serious strain on my marriage. I thought about ending it all at times.
Being a bloke, we are just supposed to suck it up, and get on with it, but that’s not always an easy thing to do, especially when the voices get too loud and just don’t stop.

The same thoughts going round in your head.

At our first meeting, I was sceptical about speaking to a stranger about the things that were going on in my head. To me it felt like it wouldn’t make a difference. I was very much mistaken.

I felt an immediate sense of non-judgemental understanding and compassion. I could comfortably talk to Paula about the voices, suicidal thoughts and self-sabotaging behaviour.

Her support was a crucial turning point because she didn’t just listen, she also provided helpful guidance and techniques on how to deal with all aspects of my mental health.

Week on week things were constantly improving and then I had my eureka moment. I tried something she had recommended; it was a complete game changer. There was silence, nothing answering back, just silence.
In that moment I felt 10 feet tall as that I could take on the world.

I can genuinely say, I wish I had reached out to someone like Paula years ago. She really has helped me turn my life around in a very surprising way.

The voices have gone very quiet and my relationships with my wife and kids has improved massively. The coping mechanisms she recommended to me have helped immensely and will continue too, long into the future.

Paula finally helped me find that little bit of inner peace I so badly needed.
